Despacito was released by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi in the year 2017 and was the number one streamed track in just 6 months. It was a mixture of reggaeton, pop and rock not only brought renewed attention to reggaeton but it also attracted attention to Latin music more generally. Billboard's Top 100 included four mostly Spanish songs from 2016 and two songs in 2015. The Despacito song was at its peak popularity in 2017, however, 19 mostly Spanish songs made it into the Top 100, and in 2020 there were 41 such songs. After Justin Bieber released his bilingual remix of Despacito in the year 2017 famous artists started to work with reggaeton musicians. Drake and Bad Bunny collaborated on MIA (2018), while Madonna joined forces with Maluma on Medellin in the year 2019. Certain reggaeton performers expressed their displeasure at the rise of popular music by 2020. But a newly formed group called Rauw Alejandro wanted to maintain the growth and evolution of reggaeton. He often used electronic dance and other forms.
